All New Moons plunge us into the dark Void from whence we can emerge anew bursting with the rising light of dawn. This one is the Mother of all Dark Moons as it is in Scorpio, the sign of death and rebirth. This is the New Moon to peer deeply within our very core, even if we are afraid of what we may find. Facing up to the slumbering pain and feelings of doubt and fear, we can defeat them by Knowing them first. We can use this time for deep transformative healing and reformation, clearing away the dust of old to arise again with the renewed passion and purified vision of a future we are to seed.

Scorpio is also symbolized by the Phoenix which consumes itself in flames before emerging stronger and fiercer than before. A good way to fully utilize this powerful New Moon is through a ritual, especially one involving fire. Focus all the things you’d like to rid yourself off into an object such as a stick or write it all out on paper, then burn it.

The Artist as Shaman

Jackson Pollock is one example of the Artist as Shaman in the modern world. Through his paintings, he entered a trance where unrestricted by technique, the subconscious had free reign.

Pollock’s paintings are artifacts brought back from his own travels into the underworld of archetypes, stemming from his years of Jungian psychoanalysis. Greatly influenced by his childhood explorations of the Navajo reservations in Arizona, his interest was reignited when he saw a MoMA exhibit on Native Americans in 1941. Turning to Jung and Shamanism, Pollock used art to heal the discord he felt within himself, as well as becoming a mirror of America at a time when we had finally faced the possibility of complete annihilation after the dropping of the first atomic bomb.

He never planned a painting but chose to enter it fully immersed in the moment of creation, walking through a fourth dimensional plane where time and space become superimposed and ancient archetypes dance on a borderless canvas dreamscape. The correlation between his paintings and Shamanism can be seen in his statement here:

“I don’t work from drawings or color sketches. My painting is direct. I usually paint on the floor. I enjoy working on a large canvas. I feel more at home, more at ease in a big area. Having a canvas on the floor, I feel nearer, more a part of a painting. This way I can walk around it, work from all four sides and be in the painting, similar to the Indian sand painters of the West. Sometimes I use a brush, but often prefer using a stick. Sometimes I pour the paint straight out of the can. I like to use a dripping, fluid paint. I also use sand, broken glass, pebbles, string, nails or other foreign matter. The method of painting is a natural growth out of a need. I want to express my feelings rather than illustrate them. Technique is just a means of arriving at a statement.

When I am painting I have a general notion as to what I am about. I can control the flow of the paint; there is no accident, just as there is no beginning and no end.”

His large scale paintings with their swirling chaotic paint drippings were at once both the dropping of the atom bomb as well as the artists own turbulent soul, a microcosm/macrocosm. The canvas strewn across the floor was his stage where he assumed the role of the Shaman with the ritual itself becoming in essence a shamanic dance with paint.

Synchromysticism, 9/11 & Magick Ritual

Whether you are aware of it or not, you are all being initiated into the ‘New World Order’. Everyone feels it, although not all are conscious of the Time. Some of you will fight it, albeit vainly, the ignorant will sleepwalk through it, but only a select few will recognize the wake-up call and participate in the creation of it.

Let go of the fear of the unknown, simply listen to your higher self, go with the flow and see where it all leads. An open mind is key to unlocking the ability to see the patterns woven ever so delicately into the shroud veiling the spirit world.

I have long held the intuition that 9/11 was more than just a tragic incident. A deep esoteric aura surrounds this event, which shook the whole world as it was observed live by countless eyes. What happened was a grand magick ritual used to create a portal into a new world. The shock and awe that vibrated through the souls of millions fed the ritual, concentrating great energy to be used in shaping the future.

Not alone in my philosophy, there is a whole subculture that has taken fire known as Synchromysticism. The word was coined by Jake Kotze in August of 2006 in an article posted on his blog Brave New World Order, who defines it as “the art of realizing meaningful coincidence in the seemingly mundane with mystical or esoteric significance.”

It is the study of pop culture infused with the esoteric. The world of archetypes and symbols underlying our reality. The ancients had their myths, today we have the movies on the silver screen.
